Principal and Ancillary Staff

Our Principal leads with a vision of academic excellence and a commitment to fostering a nurturing, faith-based environment. Supported by our dedicated Ancillary Staff, who ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the school, we strive to create a welcoming and effective learning community for all.

Karen Jordan (Principal)

Karen has been Principal since 2017. She has worked in St. Catherine’s N.S. since 2003 and held the Special Duties B Post before becoming Deputy Principal and then Principal. A native of Carlow she studied for her B.Ed with CICE and Trinity College and graduated in 1997. After teaching for a number of years in Sutton she joined the team in St. Catherine’s NS in 2003. She completed a Postgrad in Leadership with Maynooth University in 2009 and most recently she has completed a diploma in coaching for Educational Leaders with Coaching Academy Plus in 2021. She enjoys running in her spare time!

Vera O Rourke - Ancillary staff at St Catherines National School Ireland

Vera O'Rourke (Ancillary)

Vera joined St. Catherine’s as School Secretary in April 2021. Over the previous 34 years, she worked as Executive Assistant to the CEO and Chairman of ifac, a nationwide accountancy practice. She holds diplomas in payroll management (IPASS), graphic design and digital marketing. In her spare time, she loves travelling, spending time in the garden and on the golf course.

Special Needs Assistants

Our SNA staff members support students with additional needs, ensuring they receive the necessary assistance to participate fully in the educational environment. Their role is crucial in promoting inclusivity and providing tailored support to help each student reach their full potential.

Aleathea (SNA)

Aleathea joined St Catherines in September 2022. She has been a SNA for 3yrs and has a QQI level 5 SNA qualification along with a Level 6 Diploma in Inclusive School Support.  She  is fully trained in Lámh having completed Lámh ULTCA QQI level 5 in Facilitating Communication through Lámh and Total Communication through Lámh. 

She also has a keen interest in Carol Gray Social stories and is beginning a course on nurturing in September.

She believes in inclusion more than integration. She has a love of Lámh and is proud of the headway St Catherine’s has made in using Lámh throughout the school. Outside of school she passionately follows taekwondo as her daughters are both involved in it.

Anna Walsh - Teacher at St Catherines National School Ireland

Anna Walsh (SNA)

Anna has come to our SNA team from her 10 year + experience as a children’s yoga teacher. Anna believes in giving children the tools to navigate the big emotions and tricky situations that will come their way, through movement, breath work and exercise these tools help with focus, engagement, strength, & confidence. 

Sylvia (SNA)

Silvia is a member of our SNA team. she joined St Catherine’s in 2020. She currently works with and supports children from 6th, 4th & 2nd class. She loves to work with children with a variety of needs and abilities. She believes in inclusivity and has a strong interest in special education.

Anna Finlay - Teacher at St Catherines National School Ireland

Anna Finlay (SNA)

Anna  joined St Catherine’s in November 2024. She has a QQA level 5 SNA qualification. 

Anna previously worked in corporate HR but was looking to make a change into a more rewarding career. 

Working with kids is what gets her up in the morning. It’s a privilege to be a part of young people’s journey, encouraging them and hopefully building their confidence and skills. When not in school, Anna is a busy mum to two kids, she enjoys family camping trips, cooking and crafting with her kids. 

Natalie (SNA)

Natalie has been an SNA in St. Catherine’s NS for over 20 years.

Barbara Barnes (SNA)

Barbara is a member of our SNA team. She graduated from The Progressive College of Education with two certificates in Understanding Special Needs and Assisting Children with Special Needs in June 2009.
She joined St.Catherine’s in September 2010 and has worked in every class along the way.
She has been based mainly in the junior end of the school over recent years. She is passionate about promoting communication and enjoys encouraging all children to reach their full potential.
She was part of the In School Therapy Program and has continued to complete courses with the help of St. Catherine’s , such as Lámh Module One and the Lámh Module 1 Add on, PECS and Carol Gray’s social stories, Helping Children with communication difficulties through Aistear and Autism -Visual Aids help everyone!  This year she is continuing her studies on Nurture in Schools.

Stephanie deBarra

Stephanie is our Deputy Principal and part of the SET team this year. She has been teaching at St. Catherine’s since 2014 and loves supporting all children to learn, grow, and reach their full potential. Stephanie especially enjoys hands-on activities and finding ways to bring learning outside the classroom. Originally from Galway, she now calls Dublin 8 home.

Geoff O’Connor

Geoff graduated from Dublin City University with a Bachelor of Education degree. He is currently in his third year at St. Catherine’s National School. In his first year, he worked as a Special Education Teacher (SET), and he is now in his second consecutive year teaching 5th class. Originally from Kilkenny, Geoff has been living in Dublin since 2018. He has a strong interest in inclusive education and strives every day to bring a smile to the faces of those around him.

Anita Brennan - Teacher at St Catherines National School Ireland

Anita Brennan

Anita hails from the green fields of Tipperary and loves to share her ‘Country Mouse’ experience with all the little town mice! She qualified from St Pat’s in 2002 and has since completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Leadership. When she’s not running around a hockey pitch she enjoys a good book, a walk in the park and baking sweet treats. 

Tommy Dennehy - Teacher at St Catherines National School Ireland

Tommy Dennehy

Tommy graduated from Mary Immaculate College with a PME in Primary Teaching and is currently teaching 4th Class at St. Catherine’s West NS. Originally from County Kerry, he brings his love of sport, reading, and farming into the classroom to inspire and connect with his pupils. He is passionate about fostering a positive, supportive, and engaging learning environment where every child can thrive both academically and personally.

Eoghan

Eoghan graduated with a B.Ed honours degree from Mary Immaculate College in 2023. He works in a shared SET role with Scoil Muire Gan Smál Inchicore and Our Lady of Lourdes Goldenbridge. Originally from Clare, he currently lives in Dublin and is studying Psychology in DBS. Eoghan is eager to share his passion for sports and to help make each day more enjoyable and engaging with the children in St.Catherines.’

Aisling O Neill - Teacher at St Catherines National School Ireland

Aisling O’Neill

Aisling graduated from DCU in 2019, and since then she has worked in a variety of teaching roles and school settings across Dublin. She is passionate about art and creative learning, and in her time outside of school works as an art teacher. Aisling has a keen interest in ecology, and volunteers with the Dublin Zoo education team in her free time. Aisling is so excited to be working in St. Catherine’s this year, and cannot wait to get to know everyone!

Laura Allen - Teacher at St Catherines National School Ireland

Laura Allen

Laura graduated from St. Patrick’s College with a Bachelor of Education degree in 2017 and a Graduate Diploma in Inclusive Education in 2022. She has been teaching for eight years with experience working in SET. Laura is excited to join St. Catherine’s N.S. and looks forward to meeting all of the students, staff and guardians.

Róisín O’Reilly

Róisín has been with us in St Catherine’s since 2017. She is currently teaching 5th class. She is also a member of the school leadership team as Assistant Principal II.

Faye Dunne - Teacher at St Catherines National School Ireland

Faye Dunne

Faye is a B.Ed graduate of Dublin City University. Originally from Wicklow Town, she has been living in Dublin since 2021. She enjoys travel, swimming, and hiking, and is also a qualified swim teacher.

Faye is currently teaching Junior Infants at St. Catherine’s. Her teaching interests include STEM and Physical Education.

Eve Campbell

Eve is currently teaching first class and this is her first year in St Catherine’s. Before joining us she taught in a school in Lucan and has been teaching since 2020. Eve studied Education Studies in Marino before going on to do a masters with Hibernia. She loves doing art and maths with her class and is really enjoying getting to know all the kids in the school!

Sophie Smyth

Sophie has been a staff member in St Catherine’s since 2018 and initially was on the Special Education team for 2 years. She is currently teaching Senior Infants. Originally from Cork, Sophie studied in CICE and received her B.Ed degree in 2016.

Hazel O’Connell

Hazel joined St. Catherine’s in 2016. Having graduated with a Bachelors of Education from CICE and Trinity College Dublin in 2009, she has worked in a number of schools and roles across Dublin and Wicklow. In St. Catherine’s she has worked as a class teacher and as part of the SEN team, and prior to her maternity leave was on the Board of Management. When not teaching Hazel loves spending time with her family and friends, traveling and getting stuck into a good book (or TV series!).

Erica Byrne

Erica graduated with a B.Ed Honours from DCU in 2022. She has been working full time in St. Catherine’s Since 2022, but has been subbing in the school since 2020 and has always loved the school. She has taught 4th and 6th class over the past few years and has been really enjoying her time in the school. She is also the Green Schools Co-ordinator in the school.

Sarah Northcutt

Sarah Northcutt has been teaching in St Catherine’s since 2022. She was born and raised in Dublin, where she still lives with her family.

She received a B.Ed from CICE, and values the continuation of her own learning. She has a particular interest in early education and special education, believing that early support lays a strong foundation in children reaching their potential. Her favourite subjects to teach are English and Music, and her favourite subject to learn is Maths.
