School News 19-10-2015

Dear Parents,

First of all, may I remind you about this evening’s AGM of the Parents’ Association at 8 pm in the school hall. Please attend if you possibly can, as many important decisions will be taken, including the nomination / election of new Parent Nominees to the Board of Management. To date we have one father nominated, Des Cox, and two mothers have also put their names forward, Leigh Hamilton and Sandra Irwin-Gowran. There will also be nominations and elections to this year’s PA Committee, and (hopefully) the launch of our new school website.

On Friday, we are encouraging the children to dress up to celebrate Hallowe’en. It’s not mandatory but most of the children enjoy this enormously. Parents of Junior Infants may like to explain to their children beforehand that some of the costumes, masks, etc. might be a bit scary!

Thanks to all who have paid their book rental and other contributions at this stage, or who have made arrangements to do so by direct debit or standing order. We got our bank statement recently and almost all of the direct debits or standing orders have names attached, either of the children or the parent(s), but we do have two that puzzle us – one labelled “school contribution” and one “school fees”. If this is how you labelled your contribution, could you let me know? Otherwise we won’t know who has paid them. I have the details of the dates and amounts if anyone is unsure.

Donal’s creative writing class is publishing a magazine this week, to be sold for 50 cents. It will have a Hallowe’en theme and feature lots of scary stories, but also tips on writing. Please support this venture by encouraging your children to buy a copy, and maybe some extra copies for relatives and friends!

Well done to Katy, Andrew, OisIn Burgess, Henry, Alistair, Matthew, Luke Donaghy, Toby and Olivia who all took part in a junior chess tournament on Saturday. Oisin won a medal in the Minor Section and Katy won a medal in the more senior “Challengers” section, and was the highest place girl. Congratulations all round.

Kind Regards,

April.
