January 2017

January had us learning all about Australia and the aboriginal culture. We read stories from the dream time, learned about the journey of Captain Cook, made aboriginal dot paintings and fibre sculptures, learned the song “Waltzing Matilda” and had a go at playing the didgeridoo! We finished up our topic by making some Lamingtons , damper bread and Anzac biscuits and we also tried vegemite. In maths we learned about symmetry and 3d shapes. We made our own symmetrical faces and we looked at symmetry around the school. We looked at the paintings of Henry Matisse and his use of shape and symmetry. We then recreated our own. Gaeilge had us learning about ‘An bhaile” we made our own houses from shoeboxes and learned the different rooms and features of the room.
