16-05-2016 PA – St. Catherine’s Quiz Night; Trivia Fact No.2
We hope you’ve been enjoying the sunny weather this weekend! There are now only 5 days to go before St Catherine’s holds its annual Quiz Night on Friday next. To further advance the knowledge of our attentive email audience, we’d like to share another little-known fact about St. Catherine’s. Facts are always handy to have … especially in a quiz!
Did you Know???
Fact No. 2: Donore Avenue, where the school stands, was originally called Love Lane.
The street was known as Love Lane during the 18th century and changed in the early 20th century. City records show that a Sunday School was opened in St Catherine’s Parish on Love Lane in 1786, supposedly the first in Ireland. Prominent among its founders was Arthur Guinness. A more substantial school was built by the Guinness, La Touche & Bewley families in 1808 at School Street near the Guinness brewery.
So … now you’re a little better informed on local history. Who knows when that fact might come in handy!!
Please arrive early next Friday Evening
Last year’s Quiz Night was a great success but lots of people arrived at or after 8pm. To ensure we get underway on time this year, we are asking parents to arrive well before 8pm. Remember you’ll need to get your table number, your answer sheets, and a table to sit at before we can start. You may want to get some drinks before we kick off also – so please arrive in plenty of time!
Tickets On Sale!
Advance tickets will remain on sale in the school yard throughout this week. Buying tickets in advance will help us to get up and running quickly on the night. Tickets are priced at €10 per person or €40 per table of four.
All funds raised this year will go directly towards essential IT equipment for the school.
