Dear Parents,
There are only 10 days to go before St Catherine’s holds its annual Quiz Night. To reward our attentive email audience, we thought we would share a few little-known facts about St. Catherine’s ahead of time. It’s always good to have some facts at your fingertips … especially in a quiz!
Did you Know???
Fact No. 1: St. Catherine’s School was first used as a polling station in 1924
The City Sheriff requisitioned the premises for the Dublin South by-election in November of 1924. Seán Lemass, a future Taoiseach, was thus elected for the first time. He won the seat vacated by Hugh Kennedy who had resigned upon his appointment as Chief Justice of Irish Free State. Nobody can claim this wasn’t a highly significant constituency in the nation’s early years.
So … now you’re a little better informed on local history. Who knows when that fact might come in handy!!
Tickets On Sale From Tomorrow!
Advance tickets will be on sale from tomorrow morning through P.A. and through the teacher at the door (they can also give you posters to put up). Buying your tickets in advance will help us to get up and running quickly on the night. Tickets are priced at €10 per person or €40 per table of four.
All funds raised this year will go directly towards essential IT equipment for the school.
Share or Display the Poster (and WIN!)
As we build up to the event, we would love you to share the poster below with family and friends via LinkedIn and other social media. This is a good opportunity to share a bit of community spirit with colleagues, friends or family.
We would also like you to display the printed poster. Posters can be displayed in local shops or in your own window. We’ll be picking one publicly displayed poster at random and investigating who put it up/whose house it adorns. The lucky ‘poster of the poster’ will be awarded a nice bottle of wine on the night – you only win if you’re there though!
Top Tip: Write your name discreetly on the back if you place a poster in a retail outlet.
Just in case you’ve missed the previous emails, the quiz will be held at McGowan’s in Harold’s Cross on Friday May 20th @ 8pm.
Prizes Still Needed
We would be delighted to receive donations of prizes for our raffle. Prize donations from parents and friends of St. Catherine’s have always been generous and we’re sure this year will be no different. Donated prizes will be gratefully accepted through the teaching staff or Parents Association members in advance. Great prize ideas include:
- Signed sports jerseys
- Concert tickets
- Dinner vouchers
- Bottles of wine or spirits
- Artwork
- Hampers
- Gift vouchers
Remember to book your babysitter now … before someone does!
You can share the poster via this link.
