15-02-2017 School News

Dear Parents,

First of all, thanks to the many people who emailed, called or dropped in to say kind things to me arising out of my last letter. I have really appreciated the good wishes and compliments. St Catherine’s is a great school and will continue to be so –  I will miss it very much, but hope to stay in touch and involved through chess and perhaps in other ways.

Secondly, we are celebrating World Book Day on Friday, March 3rd. We have chosen “Myths, Legends and Fairy-tales” as our theme this year and we are inviting children to dress as their favourite “legendary”, “mythical” or “fairy-tale” character for the day. No need for anything very elaborate or expensive…just let the imagination take over!

As you may remember, the Parents’ Association raised a significant sum of money at the Winter Fair. We are in the process of spending a large chunk of that on ICT education. After the midterm break, an “ICT-in_education” company called GetSmartMedia will be working with all classes from 1st to 6th on (hopefully) exciting ICT-related projects. This will benefit the children themselves in their ability to use ICT creatively, but will also upskill in the staff in this area as the teachers and SNAs will be working alongside the GetSmartMedia coach. Thanks so much to Clare Jordan for sourcing excellent refurbished laptops for us.

Finally, on a very mundane note, we have many reports of headlice again. Time for a Nit Nightmare Mid-term Break!

We are closed all next week and re-open with a full school day on Monday, February 27th.

Kind Regards,

April.
